Little Black Dress 2020
This post is for if you were interested in having some pairing ideas tossed out or simply to get some context about what I might appreciate in the LBD with different kinds of personalities or situations. It's absolutely not a list of favorites or anything meant to box you in as a writer. I genuinely feel like each of these characters is a perfect Little Black Dress, and I am wholeheartedly eager for the surprise I will receive!
Akira Kurusu
Ship Dynamics:
Akira/Joker
This is more of an Akira/Other scenario, but I love when Joker is a separate entity from Akira and causes him to go through a crisis of finding a version of himself attractive, but also wondering how sane he really is to have this entity showing up in his life outside of Mementos. It's a ship that can be as dark, deep, and complicated as you want, or as lighthearted and fun as you want.
Akira/Yusuke
It is undeniable that Akira and Yusuke are attractive together. It dives straight into a more whimsical hurt/comfort realm more than some of the other pairings Akira can end up in. I enjoy his unquestionable support towards Yusuke, and the days that Yusuke ends up spending his time with him outside school are lovely.
Akira/Akechi
I'm a fan of enemies to lovers for sure, and that's definitely the flavor of Akira/Akechi I enjoy. Give me all of your fucked up, complicated feelings and begrudging attraction.
Akira/Iwai
I loved Iwai the moment I saw him. I loved him more and more as the game went on. The almost mentor/student dynamic between them was delicious, and I enjoyed the way that Akira impressed an ex-yakuza. There is so much to love about this pairing!
Akira/Mishima
I am intrigued by the two directions this pairing could take. On one hand, it could obviously be healthy and kind and all about nurturing one another in our darkest times. On the other hand, the power dynamic felt incredibly one sided and could potentially lead to a very interesting power struggle between fame hungry and self-righteous and the person at the center of all of the attention.
Akira/Demon(s)
As I mentioned above, if xeno is something you're into I am here. for. it. He is a little black dress for everybody, not just humans.
Opt Ins:
Akira Kurusu/Kazuya Minegishi (Devil Survivor Protagonist)
I love this pairing! I love the dynamic that could be possible between these two extremely devil-may-care characters. Their love life would be adventurous and fun and full to the brim with supernatural flare.
Akira Kurusu/Yamato Hotsuin (Devil Survivor 2)
Two people too young for so much authority and power coming together would be brilliant, especially because you couldn't ask for two more different people. Yamato is all about duty and proving himself and preserving history and talent. Akira is all playful, underhanded tactics and saving people because they are people. He has no high ideals or even a sense of duty. He does what he does because it's right. I love how they could clash and come together at once!
Akira Kurusu/Akihiko Sanada (Persona 3)
Listen. Clever and fun vs straight-laced is my jam. Akihiko is proud and here to do the right thing for the right reasons, and do it by the book. Akira...well he is too, but he's probably going to do it in a way you don't like. This duo would make villains run scared and bring out the best in one another, while also probably driving one another mental.
Felix Alexius
Ship Dynamics:
Felix/Inquisitor
It all started with a collapse into his lap! The inquisitor was the one with the first words and contact with Felix, and is head of the opposition to Felix's father. Depending on how you play or write the inquisitor this pairing could be something beautiful or complicated, and either way would be absolutely fantastic.
Felix/Dorian
Friends to lovers is so good and wholesome. Dorian has the most history with Felix. He knows all of his secrets and wishes, and is the one who would always be the most invested in Felix in the story. I would love to see a romance blossom out of such close friendship in a trying time.
Felix/Cullen
Cullen is a man working through his demons and trying to give chances where he can. Felix can hardly be called a mage, he's somewhere in between, something safe but not quite. I imagine that would sit very uneasy with Cullen, especially when Felix is such an aggressively kind person. And with both of them having failing bodies at the same time I imagine there is bonding to be had.
Felix/Carver
The dynamic between sullen, cranky bastard and ray of sunshine is a powerful one! Carver has gone through loss time and time again in his life, and if they met during a time that Felix was similarly going through loss of his father (whether through death or simply locked away) I feel like these two would blossom together and bleed into one another, creating something stronger and better as a unit.
Felix/Krem
Krem hates the Vints. Of course he does. Why wouldn't he? Which is probably why it would be so infuriating that he meets one so utterly likable! One who's shit at magic and softly talks about what Tevinter is doing wrong, who might not be alive tomorrow but still honorably does what he can for the cause.
Felix/Iron Bull
Iron Bull likes to pick up strays. He sees and understands more than he ever lets on. And he holds respect for those that are strong. It doesn't matter in what way. I like to imagine he sees strength in Felix even when Felix doesn't see it himself and happily tries to cajole and teach it out of him.
Felix/Solas
Images of Solas tending to a sickly Felix just as he had done for the Inquisitor at the start of game is lovely. Soothing him in his dreams, tracking the blight, growing attached more and more as he sees his life unfold in his slumber.
Frederick of Serault
Ship Dynamics:
Frederic/Hawke
Hawke loves dragons. Frederic really loves dragons. They both are absolutely passionate and prone to adventure. I would love to see their nerdy first meeting, and their possible blossoming romance during the period that Hawke is in the Western Approach! Soft eyed Hawke listening to Frederic go on for hours while they trade a waterskin back and forth is gold.
Frederic/Iron Bull
Iron Bull loves dragons. Frederic really loves dragons. Like with Hawke, it was meant to be! Iron Bull would love hearing about his favorite killing machines, and they'd both get a thrill just watching them fly overhead together. And he can teach the rather absentminded scholar how to let loose a bit and focus on something that doesn't breathe fire.
Frederic/Inquisitor
The Inquisitor took on Frederic's tasks there in the desert, and it would be cute to see something begin there. Perhaps even continue at Skyhold with their new draconologist on staff?
Frederic/Dorian
From one scholar to another, these two would get on like wildfire despite such different areas of study. Days buried in books and wine and discussions of culture and science. Please Dorian, tell him more about the dragons native to Tevinter.
Jimmy Hopkins
Ship Dynamics:
Jimmy/Gord
You can canonically kiss Gord. Gord canonically likes a bad boy. I love Gord so much. He's so sassy and full of himself, but also the closest to a hard worker that you see among the prep clique. He's got a wild streak in him that the others don't, and I can see why Jimmy would hold vast appeal to him.
Jimmy/Pinky
I AM A PRINCESS. Guys, I fucking love Pinky. Jimmy loves pleasing girls, and I am 100% here for him pleasing Pinky. She would be demanding and ridiculous, and Jimmy has already proven that he's absolutely willing to go along with silly demands from a pretty girl. Their date was adorable, and I think they're amazing.
Jimmy/Zoe
Obviously this was end pair for the game pretty much. I enjoy Zoe as this punk spirited girl who had been burned and is now looking to fight fire with fire. I absolutely understand why Jimmy liked her. They would absolutely set the world ablaze together one port-a-potty at a time.
Jimmy/Pete
Pete is a good guy who got put in a crap place. And during the game Jimmy didn't give him the attention or respect he deserved, but, let's face it, that's very Jimmy. I think Endless Summer and on would be a great place to explore a relationship between them as Jimmy grows and matures and sees Pete for all of his intelligence and cleverness, the brains to his brawn.
Jimmy/Gary
Who doesn't like a good love/hate relationship? Gary pushed all of Jimmy's buttons and played him like a fiddle. Jimmy knows it and hates it. Anything during the game, after the game, or way off in their adulthood would be amazing to see.
Jimmy/Russell
RUSSELLL!!! I also love Russell. He is a good boy with a good heart that just so happens to be better at smashing than anything else. He was there and helped Jimmy come out on top more than once. He is loyal to a fault, and I would love to see even more of that loyalty play out.
Jimmy/Johnny
Jimmy and Johnny have such an interesting relationship. In the beginning, Johnny is accusing him of stealing his girl and fighting him over it, and later Jimmy rescues Johnny from the asylum which I always felt was a particularly interesting event in the game. It felt like something darker and far more adult/serious than most of the rest of the game. I feel like that kind of bond and favor wouldn't be forgotten easily. Jimmy saved him from a potentially life altering sequence of events.
Hilda Valentine Goneril
Ship Dynamics:
Hilda/Byleth
Obviously I romanced Hilda during my playthrough, and I adored it. The ending I got was them having a fashion school. I love the idea of that! I love the idea of Byleth supporting her. I love the idea of Hilda being a perfect political mastermind on his/her arm. They would be such a power couple.
Hilda/Claude
You can't mention Hilda without Claude. They are attached at the hip, constantly gossiping and planning and playing around. I would read this dynamic duo any day.
Hilda/Dorothea
I feel like Hilda has great respect for incredibly beautiful women, and no one is better than Dorothea in that regard. She would admire her and want to be like her, and Dorothea is a brilliantly nurturing character. I feel as if the two of them could come together and build one another up for eternity and send the world into fits of envy.
Hilda/Lorenz
The second character that I didn't expect to fall in love with but absolutely did was Lorenz. He is so charming it kills me. I love how over the top and insulting he can be, but every word out of his mouth is said with such good intentions it's hard to hate him. They would be a powerful family union, and Hilda would like a man so willing to treat her like royalty...even if it is just for political gain.
Hilda/Ignatz
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the scenes between these two. Ignatz took care of Hilda so well and never complained to the point even Hilda was confused! They would have such a sweet relationship, and I think it would help both of them grow into better versions of themselves.
Hilda/Ferdinand
Ferdinand has the same lovely appeal to me as Lorenz does. He's absolutely gorgeous and well bred, perfect for Hilda, and then later on everything fall apart. Hilda would not necessarily be the first person he could go to for comfort, but there is something to be said about finding solace in normalcy, and Hilda absolutely knows how to build someone's self-esteem back up.
Hilda/Ingrid
Ingrid doesn't know hair and makeup and fashion. Hilda does and is all too eager to take Ingrid under her wing. I love me a good slumber party complete with softly applying makeup and brushing hair. Eugh, so good.
Hilda/Constance
This pairing would be a wild ride, but one I'd be interested in seeing. Constance and her constant (ha) attempts to rejoin high society would be an interesting foil to Hilda who has never even had to worry about it with her perfect brother, etc. If they can overcome envy and laziness they could take the world by storm.
Hilda/Holst
I loved Hilda's interesting relationship with her brother. They obviously care about one another deeply, though Holst far more demonstrably XD I enjoyed Hilda's antagonistic feelings towards him, and I can only imagine how a secret romantic relationship between the two would play out.
The Gatekeeper
Ship Dynamics:
Gatekeeper/Caspar
This is a pairing I think about a lot. Caspar is excitable and eager to do the right thing. He likes having a cause and being the best he can be! And I think Gatekeeper is absolutely the same way, but in a less aggressive way. If I was Gatekeeper I'd be smitten by someone so passionate. And if I saw Caspar post time skip I might actually faint.
Gatekeeper/Byleth
Obviously as the MC, Byleth is the one person we know is talking to and checking in with Gatekeeper. They would be the friendly face that always gives him the time of day. And in uncertain times that means a lot, and Gatekeeper is very emotional about the people around him and the state of the war at any given time, and he would absolutely care about the person who is in the thick of all of it.
Gatekeeper/Ashe
Ashe is a sweetheart in every sense of the word. He is likely very kind to Gatekeeper and I imagine asks him about himself and his family often. I can just see him bringing Gatekeeper snacks and leaving him there at his post with butterflies in his stomach.
Gatekeeper/Lorenz
Lorenz is a mess and has likely spoken down to Gatekeeper more than once. With good intentions, of course. But if gatekeeper wishes for a grander life than that of a simple guard I am sure Lorenz seems like a dream. And perhaps Lorenz is windswept by the earnestness and easy trust from Gatekeeper.
Gatekeeper/Sylvain
What is worse than having a crush on someone who doesn't notice you? Having it on someone who doesn't notice you, but notices everyone else! It would be hard to listen in day after day to Sylvain sweet talking a new girl in the market area. But an idle flirt in passing and several times catching lingering eyes could lead to something far more interesting.
Gatekeeper/Dimitri
Do you know who needs a ray of sunshine and stability in their life? Fucking Dimitri. It would kill Gatekeeper to see their friend who had been so kind and poised and beautiful turn into the angry version of himself post-time skip. I would be delighted to hear Gatekeeper's side of things as he watches the progression of someone he cares for.
Gatekeeper/Dedue
Dedue is stoic and large, but is very kind once you get to know him. Lots of people don't give him a chance. Gatekeeper would give him a chance. How could he not? Dedue was loyal to Dimitri and fought bravely at his side. There is so much to admire in that. He was just a lowly gatekeeper after all. But Dedue knows there is pride and honor to be had there. And perhaps Gatekeeper would like to try some food from far off places he's never had the opportunity to visit.

Dedue was loyal to Dimitri and fought bravely at his side. There is so much to admire in that. He was just a lowly gatekeeper after all. But Dedue knows there is pride and honor to be had there. And perhaps Gatekeeper would like to try some food from far off places he's never had the opportunity to visit.
